Say hi to Nobi Check Mate

A feature for extra convenience

Safety comes first for Nobi. Always. Every person on the floor might need lifesaving help. So, Nobi will offer it. But what if a caregiver bends down to grab a book that fell under the bed? Or what if a housekeeper reaches under the cupboard to clean?

To make sure that Nobi’s emergency procedure is only activated in case of a true fall, Nobi introduces ‘Check Mate’. This new feature combines non-compromised safety with full comfort.

How does Check Mate work?

Nobi detects a person on the floor.

Trained Nobi-experts immediately check the anonymous footage and assess if help is needed or not. Only when 2 experts agree that no help is needed, the alarm is cancelled.

In all other scenarios, Nobi asks, ‘Did you fall?’

If the answer isn’t ‘no’, Nobi alerts a caregiver.

Privacy is key

For Nobi, the right to privacy is a fundamental principle. Unlike other fall detection systems, Nobi only sends images to the cloud when someone is lying on the floor. In senior living facilities, that happens on average only once every two weeks. With Nobi Check Mate, Nobi experts evaluate whether the person on the floor has actually fallen. These experts are only shown anonymized images in which the face has been blurred to make it unrecognizable. Under no circumstances are personal data shared. This is how Nobi combines maximum safety for the resident with 100% privacy and extra convenience for care workers who will never again receive a false alarm.

Practicalities

  • Free add-on for extra convenience
  • Activated by default for users who approved the sharing of images after a fall when Nobi was installed.
  • Easy to deactivate in the Nobi dashboard under 'privacy settings'.

Q&A

After detecting someone on the floor, Nobi escalates the fall after 30 seconds. When Nobi Check Mate is activated, trained Nobi experts are given 60 seconds to review the anonymous footage and assess if assistance is needed. Only if help is deemed necessary, Nobi will alert the care staff to provide prompt assistance.

Conclusion: Once Nobi's Check Mate has been activated, Nobi will alert the care staff within a maximum of 1.5 minutes after a fall occurs.

Alerts will be escalated as was previously configured. The flow doesn’t change at all.

Each Nobi expert undergoes comprehensive training at the beginning to ensure they have the necessary skills and knowledge.

Additionally, there is a continuous evaluation process in place for Nobi experts. How does it work? We have implemented an ongoing review system where every evaluation of a fall by Nobi experts is reviewed by other Nobi experts. What happens to the footage after Nobi experts have analyzed it?

In the case of a (potential) fall, the footage captured 15 seconds before and 15 seconds after the incident is retained for 10 days. This serves two purposes: training the Nobi experts and, of course, aiding in fall prevention. After 10 days, the footage is automatically deleted.

1/ Training: Nobi Check Mate employs an ongoing evaluation process for Nobi experts. Evaluations of falls are reviewed by other Nobi experts, enabling continuous learning and team improvement. The footage before and after the fall is crucial for this process.

2/ Prevention: Nobi not only detects falls but also helps prevent them. Providing caregivers with insight into the causes of a fall, 15 seconds before and 15 seconds after the incident, is one of the ways Nobi can assist in fall prevention. Therefore, it is important to retain this footage for a limited time.

For Nobi, the right to privacy is a fundamental principle. Therefore, Nobi experts are only shown anonymized images in which faces have been blurred to make them unrecognizable. Under no circumstances are personal data shared.

Nobi Check Mate is a free add-on for extra convenience. Nobi Check Mate is activated by default for users who approved the sharing of images after a fall when Nobi was installed. The add-on is easy to deactivate in the Nobi dashboard under 'privacy settings'.
